Biography

Currently, Russell is a Ph.D graduate student researcher at Case Western Reserve University where he works in the Medical Robotics and Computer Integrated Surgery (MeRCIS) laboratory. His research interests include robotic controls, computer vision, and their application to the field of medical robotics. He graduated from Rose Hulman Institute of Technology in May of 2009 with a B.S. in electrical engineering and a B.S. in mathematics. He plans on graduating from Case Western Reserve University with a Ph.D in electrical engineering in the spring of 2015.

Current Professional Projects

His current research involves tracking single dimensionsional deformable surgical objects using stereo image processing. This includes detecting suture threads and catheters in a stereo image system. The tracking data allows for surgical robots to manipulate the detected targets in real time.
